Activating Cultural Emergence conference
26th-28th January 2018
Join Jon Young, Looby Macnamara and Starhawk for this pioneering conference to discover tools for positive cultural evolution. This is an exciting opportunity to learn and converse with the co-founders and collaborators of the Cultural Emergence project and to be part of the global activation of Cultural Emergence.
What is Cultural Emergence?
Humanity is presently in a crisis of disconnection and a time of mass cultural emergency; we see the personal, social, political and environmental problems as stemming from a lack of cultural understanding and cohesion. We believe there are tools that can help turn this around into mass Cultural Emergence; where abundance, gratitude, care and connection are part of our everyday culture. Emergence is a term used in systems thinking where 2 or more things come together with unexpected results. By bringing people together with these tools and methods we have the opportunity to ask good questions and to co-create answers and solutions and emerge the culture we want.
Cultural Emergence is a toolkit for expanding our positive impact in the world. Cultural Emergence uses conscious design and action to help us manifest our ideal scene, for ourselves and the world. The toolkit is designed to support us to be proactive and facilitate visionary responses to our global crises. It emerged through the collaboration, distillation and synthesis of Looby and Jon’s pioneering work in the arenas of personal and social permaculture and deep nature connection and village building. We are now collaborating with Starhawk and other visionaries and leaders around the world to bring together the most profoundly effective toolkit.
Our Vision - To accelerate global cultural transformation towards a peaceful, connected world for a positive regenerative future.
Our Mission - To create an effective toolkit that we can use to challenge and awaken, move and invigorate, nourish and empower ourselves and others.
One of the biggest challenges of working with “Invisible Structures” is that they are invisible. That does not mean that they are ineffective or unimportant--quite the contrary. The success of any project is not measured only by the physical and visible outcomes, but by the social capital built through positive relationships. There’s an art to this.
Through interactive, lively and participatory processes you will become familiar with the practices of Cultural Emergence. You will learn how to use them in your own lives to become more intentional in making your relationships kinder, more connected and truly regenerative. You will be invited to contribute to the ongoing, evolving, global conversation of how we can use Cultural Emergence to manifest action and momentum in enhancing positive connections for individuals, families, groups and communities of all types. The collective wisdom of the group will be harvested to further the development and effectiveness of this inspirational toolkit.
We will look at the many levels of culture, right through from our own personal culture and patterns of being, to the global context. We will share tools and processes for ways of being, thinking and seeing differently that enable breakthroughs to occur. Inviting what may previously seem impossible to become possible through collaboration, co-creation and emergence. People will be invited to nurture the visions they hold for themselves, their communities and the world. You will have the opportunity to consider and clarify your contribution to the world and empower yourself to keep to your true path in life.
Cultural Emergence Pathways
There are many ways in which to become familiar with the toolkit. The Activating Cultural Emergence conference is one of the modules to engage with Cultural Emergence, in particular it engages us with the practices for the Challenge and awaken phase. The modules can be taken in any order, and reinforce each other and deepen understanding of different aspects of the toolkit.
People who have taken all 3 modules can then apply to do the Cultural Emergence Leadership Training which will be held in 2019 (full details to come).
Who is it for?
No prior knowledge of permaculture or 8 Shields work is necessary.
